The Panasonic LUMIX GH5s is great camera for travel photography. It isn’t very specially portable, but it has an outstanding battery-life and feels very pleasant to shoot with. Image level of quality is excellent straight out of the camera, and if you like to shoot RAW, it has fantastic noise handling in low-light conditions. It also has a really efficient autofocus system for still photos, but it can from time to time lose track of more quickly moving subjects.
The Panasonic LUMIX GH5s camera is the far more video-centric type of the well-known LUMIX GH5, which was itself replaced with the Panasonic LUMIX GH5 II in 2021. The GH5s offers a almost the same weather-sealed body as its sibling, but inside, it uses a lower-resolution 10.2 MP sensor with dual native ISO developed to improve the camera’s low-light overall performance. It brings back the multi-aspect sensor from older models just like the GH1 and GH2, meaning the sensor is a little bit larger than the lens opening, allowing you shoot at different aspect ratios without affecting the camera’s angle of viewpoint. The other major difference is the absence of in-body image stabilization (IBIS), a curious option that makes impression when you think about that this camera is focused at professional videographers and filmmakers who have a tendency to use external stabilization. Such key modifications to the sensor (together with 4k and Cinema 4k at up to 60p, 1080p slow-motion at up to 240 fps, and no recording time limitations) make this Panasonic LUMIX GH5s mirrorless camera a videography “giant”.
