It would also be beneficial if the display could show DC power output in addition to power draw. This would give users a clearer picture of real-time efficiency, which is a valuable metric for enthusiasts.

While measuring power draw accurately isn’t always easy, some might argue that a basic $10 plug-in power meter can do the job. However, it’s important to note that these devices suffer from low accuracy and very slow polling rates, making them virtually useless for tracking dynamic power changes. They’re only practical for idle measurements or rough estimates of peak power consumption.

What would truly be useful—and isn’t possible with a basic power meter—is direct DC output monitoring. Combined with AC input data, this would enable users to estimate real efficiency levels. While these readings wouldn’t be ultra-precise, they would still provide valuable insight. It’s puzzling that the NZXT E series (also based on a modified Seasonic Focus Plus Gold platform) only displays DC output, while the Asus ROG Thor shows only AC input. Ideally, both values should be available—especially considering Seasonic’s technical expertise in this area.

The ROG Thor 1200 stands out thanks to its high performance, unique external design, individually sleeved cables, and competitive pricing—especially given its feature set.

I’ve left out the addressable RGB lighting from the performance evaluation, as it requires a compatible motherboard to take full advantage of. An Aura-compatible board is the safest choice. Unfortunately, I didn’t have access to an MSI or Gigabyte board with RGB control capabilities to verify compatibility with the ROG unit.
